BIO

Kris Thomas is a Legal Assistant with Haeggquist & Eck.

Kris began their legal journey by volunteering at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego’s pro bono clinic and interning with the San Diego County Office of the Alternate Public Defender. At the clinic, they assisted clients with eviction defense, restraining orders, and name and gender marker changes. As an intern with the County, Kris supported investigators and attorneys by completing background research, reviewing case files, and requesting records to help build strong defenses.

Originally from Philadelphia, Kris attended the University of Central Florida, where they earned a B.A. in Theatre Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies. After graduating, they pursued a professional rugby career and competed for the U.S. National Rugby Team for 10 years. While competing, Kris received a full-tuition scholarship to complete an MBA from DeVry University.

Driven by a desire to support marginalized communities, Kris transitioned into the legal field and joined Haeggquist & Eck because of the firm’s deep commitment to justice and advocacy. They assist attorneys and paralegals in serving clients by conducting research and completing administrative tasks. Kris was especially drawn to HAE’s identity as a women-owned firm. Having competed on a women’s sports team for many years, they value the collaborative and empowering environment that women-led spaces often cultivate.

A lifelong language learner, Kris became fluent in Spanish in 2023 after 11 years of study. They are currently learning American Sign Language and are passionate about not just multilingual communication but also exploring the cultures, people, and traditions behind each language.

In their free time, Kris enjoys trying new restaurants, roller skating, playing sports, and reading autobiographies.
