BIO

Vanessa Trujillo is a Post-Bar Law Clerk at Haeggquist & Eck, LLP. She works closely with clients ensure that every client’s experience is effectively advocated for. Vanessa has been immersed in the legal field since 2018, gaining hands-on experience through internships in both criminal and civil law. Prior to joining HAE, she worked at the San Diego City Attorney’s Office in both its criminal and civil units. She also served as a certified misdemeanor law clerk at the Federal Defenders Office in Sacramento, where she defended individuals facing federal charges. Earlier in her career, she interned at Free to Thrive, assisting survivors of human trafficking in clearing their criminal records and rebuilding their lives.

Vanessa earned her Juris Doctor with a concentration in trial advocacy from McGeorge School of Law in May 2024. Recognized for her excellence in courtroom advocacy, she was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Barristers, an honor awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding skill in trial and oral advocacy. She completed her undergraduate studies at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in pre-law.

Her passion for law began at a young age, shaped by personal experiences with the justice system. Witnessing the power of attorneys to change lives inspired her to pursue a legal career to advocate for those in need. She is dedicated to using her legal skills to make a meaningful impact in her community, particularly in her hometown of San Diego. Vanessa was drawn to Haeggquist & Eck for its mission and dedication to representing employees and survivors. She was especially inspired by the firm’s women-owned leadership and its commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace. She values being part of a team that continuously strives to do better, not only for its clients but for the broader community.

Vanessa is passionate about standing up for individuals who have been wronged in the workplace, ensuring that their rights are upheld and their voices are heard. For her, practicing law isn’t just about legal victories—it’s about fighting for fairness, justice, and positive change. She has received several notable achievements, including the Best Cross-Examination Award at the Puerto Rico Trial Advocacy Competition in 2023 and being inducted into the Order of the Barristers. One of her most exciting moments was the opportunity to ask Justice Sonia Sotomayor a question at the Inaugural Equity Summit in 2021, where she received invaluable advice that continues to inspire her legal journey.

Born and raised in San Diego, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, visiting the beach, and exploring local coffee shops and restaurants with her husband and their golden retriever. She is fluent in Spanish, allowing her to serve a broader range of clients with compassion and understanding.
