Were You Injured by Your Heartburn Medication?

Drug manufacturers Boerhinger Ingelheim and Sanofi halted all distribution of Zantac – a popular over-the-counter heartburn medication – shortly after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced around mid-September 2019 that ranitidine medications (including Zantac) may contain a cancer-causing substance.

If you or someone you love was harmed by this drug or another that contained ranitidine, Haeggquist & Eck, LLP can help you hold drug makers accountable. Reach out to us for a free case evaluation to discuss your situation and learn more about how we can help.

What Is

Zantac?

Zantac is a brand name for ranitidine, a drug that can reduce the production of stomach
acid. Because of this effect, it is often used as an over-the-counter treatment for
heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

Zantac is produced by pharmaceutical companies Boerhinger Ingelheim and Sanofi.

Why Is

ZANTAC Being Recalled?

On Sept. 13, 2019, the FDA alerted the public that it had detected a cancer-causing
substance in unsafe concentrations within ranitidine drugs, which included Zantac and
other generic drugs created by GlaxoSmithKline, Sandoz and Apotex. The carcinogenic
substance was identified as N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), which is an organic
compound known to cause cancer in laboratory animals.
